Young Authors Conference 2015
The Young Author's Conference took place on April 18th, 2015 at Oakland Schools. Students celebrated their published piece of writing! Aaron Zenz talked with young authors about his creative process. He was entertaining, fun, and informative! To encourage writer's to write everywhere, students created their own writer's notebooks to take with them! Write on!

Young Author's Conference 2014
We had over 30 students bring their own published pieces and participate in a Young Author's Conference hosted by OCRC. The young authors each got a writer's notebook, which they were able to decorate and make their own! The students participated in a writing workshop, publication celebration and they also got to hear from a real live author/illustrator, Ryan Hipp. He shared his own writing experiences and how he became a real published author himself. Leadership Conference Learning

Emily, Lori and I are learning so much at the Michigan Reading Leadership retreat! Our keynote speaker last night was Dr. Patricia Edwards. All you MSU education grads probably have had her class at some time! She spoke on Family Literacy and it was awesome!! I loved her energy, truthfulness and humor!
We have a new council board so check out the About Us tab to meet them. We are planning a great year for Oakland County. I will be posting events and information so check us out!!

Colleen Mestdagh- Author: Force Field For Good
Our very own, Colleen Mestdagh co-authored a book with Barry Lane: Force Field for Good: Teaching Kindness through Song and Literature. She presented to OCRC members at the Troy board office the fall of 2014. Colleen presented an overview of how to build a culture of kindness in our classrooms and schools. Teachers across the nation are using the resource and loving it!
