President-Colleen Mestdagh
Colleen Mestdagh is a passionate teacher and learner. She has had the privilege of teaching second grade in Rochester Hills since 2006. She earned her BA from EMU and also holds a master's degree in Reading and Language Arts. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Literacy K-8. Colleen is a past board member of the Michigan Reading Association. She has co-authored a book with Barry Lane, Force Field For Good: Teaching Kindness through Song and Literature. She is a past board member of the Michigan Reading Association. Colleen has also had the pleasure of teaching teachers as an adjunct professor for graduate courses in the area of literacy at Madonna University. She is thrilled to lead the OCRC with such a dynamic and dedicated group of educators! When she isn't teaching she can be found traveling playing and reading with her teacher husband and 4 and 2 year old daughters!

Vice President- Emily Freeman

Emily Freeman has been teaching in the Troy School District since 2007. She began her career teaching first grade, the time in a young child's development when they are mastering foundational literacy skills. She currently teaches second grade, and there is nothing more exciting than seeing those basic skills deepen as children develop into true readers, writers and thinkers! One of her greatest goals is to share the joy she has found as a lifelong reader with her students. Her classroom buzzes with the excitement of learning and growing together! She joined the Oakland County Reading Council to bring that joy to others and help provide outreach to the community.
Secretary- Sara Provost

Sara Provost has been teaching for 10 years. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Michigan State University in Elementary Education and Language Arts and earned an additional endorsement in Mathematics from Baker College. In her career, Sara has had experience teaching all grades K-5. She has been teaching in Clawson Public Schools for 8 years, where she taught a K/1 multi-age for 3 years before she was moved to 4th and 5th grade. She is currently loving teaching 4th grade and enjoys seeing her students' passion for reading and writing echo her own. In her free time, Sara enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with her son and daughter at home.
Membership/Technology Chair- Kaitlyn PalmaKaitlyn Palma is a fifth-grade teacher in Troy School District. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Oakland University in Elementary Education with endorsements in Language Arts and Math. Kaitlyn also has experience teaching Kindergarten, Second Grade, and has spent time as a Reading Interventionist. Kaitlyn is a life long reader and strives to cultivate a love of reading in her classroom. She enjoys reading, writing, cheering on Detroit sports teams, traveling, and spending time with Family.
